Woodbury County to share Big Sioux levee patrol

21:48 Jun 22 2011 Woodbury County, IA

Description
Starting this weekend, fewer members of the 185th Air Refueling Wing will be patrolling the levees along the Big Sioux River in Sioux City.

"We're working toward a transition plan where we'll take some of those duties," Gary Brown, Woodbury County disaster and emergency services director, said Wednesday.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers planned to increase releases today to 160,000 cubic feet per second, surpassing the previously planned peak flow of 150,000 cfs. It now plans to maintain the 160,000 cfs discharge through mid-August.
